I might be going a bit too far, but I went ahead and installed terminal only xubuntu on a Vmware virtual machine so that I could do the exercises in Learn C the Hard Way
I also installed Vim and Xmonad. I think this might be close to the most HC setup I have had, short of having a linux-only computer again.
The best thing about linux is still how easy it is to install something. Want to develop in C, just type sudo apt-get install build-essential and you get all you need. Magic.
var happyAlpacaImage = new Image();
happyAlpacaImage.src = “img/happyAlpaca.png”;
This should draw an image on the upper left corner, but all I got was a mysterious white blank screen containing no images whatsoever. I put on all them checks and double checks but nothing. Then this one cool tutorial mentioned that the second line is just starting to load the image to the memory, and as programs run, it tries to draw it on the very next line. Even for a small alpaca image, this too soon!
So you have to … override the onload function of the image that you just created with the drawing call…
Of course, in a game with an update loop this should not be a problem… But anyway, finally got it to work.
I also started learning Vim because life feels too easy. It is most confusing at the start but after mastering some of the move commands you start to understand why it might be useful in the long term.
And now for something almost completely different:
My internship is going to end just before the new year. I have had a really good time at Frozenbyte and we had a fun christmas party last Friday. I am talking with them so that I could come back come summer to do my graduation work and then like, get paid real moneyz for making games! o_O
I hope it all works out :3c
This was inteded for the Game Boy Game Jam, but …
AARGH THE FIRST PART IS DONE
thank you all so much for your support and reblogs and comments and everything it’s been a huge way and I’ve learned so much about making comics (more like how not to make them)
There’s so many scenes that I think are very weak, and on the other hand some things and scenes that I feel really proud of. The best way to learn how to make comics is to draw them!!
Now I started to work with the printed version and fixing my english (I’m so sorry of my typos and everything, I hope I can find and fix them all)
You can read PRAGUE RACE on
SJ and MM !
Hurrah, go read this comic people! I heartily recommend it.
Travelling to Lesser Felt Bay, a journal.
This is a story about the Lesser Felt Bay neighbourhood, that lies in the western reaches of Helsinki. It was built in the 90’s and was at the time rather extraordinary. Why, is what I am trying to explain in this journal of my recent visit to the area.
To begin with, most of the houses around Helsinki are variants of the standard Finnish citizen container unit, and look more or less like the specimen here:
They are simple, warm and virtually indestructible. But many agree them to be rather dull. So when the architechts of the Lesser Felt Bay area started working they wanted to make a difference.
Helsinki and the sky that is never far. Taken with my Nokia N9 phone. Minor tweaks in GIMP.
Pretty and colourful wooden asymmetric awesome houses in Helsinki near my place. These are for rich people only, sorry.
I live in a typical finnish concrete box as shown in the last picture of the set. At least they are warm and sound proof.
My NaNoWriMo has begun with a dark and stormy night.
I love typing with Q10, it even makes the old typewriter sounds for me, mmmm
So that nanowrimo thing is starting again in a few hours time. I don’t have any crazy motivation posts this year. I kinda feel silly for writing them and then failing to do the actual writing :P
This year I try again.
